The Maine Farm Yarns Sampler Hat is sized for an adult medium in either dk or worsted weight yarn. It is a deceptively simple way to explore different sheep breed yarns, colors, or dive into your scrap yarn stash.  As written, the pattern uses 30 yards of four colors, plus 10 additional yards of the color used in the brim.

It starts with a short ribbing section for the brim (this can be increased if you prefer a folded brim or like a slouchy look), then it jumps into the chevron mosaic pattern.  Since they’re slip stitches, you’re only working with one color at a time. If you are using dk wieight yarn, needle sizes should be a US 3 (3.25mm) for ribbing and a US 5 (3.75mm) for the body of the hat. You will need 40 yards of four colors, plus 12 additional yards of the color used in the brim.
