Maitri Mandala is a striped semicircular shawl overlaid with a star-like cable motif radiating from the centre. The star is gradually shifts into a sequence of unique striped, slipped stitch laces.

This design’s theme is compassion. The cable pattern is based on an old Celtic design sometimes called the mother and child knot. In Tibetan Buddhism, maitri means loving kindness or compassion, and forms a beautiful meditation practice. May we cradle ourselves with this same compassion, as a parent holds a child, and in doing so find that it is easier to be kind to others when we are kind to ourselves.

  • This design is ideal for 2 solids/semi-solids, a gradient and solid, or a gorgeous pair of dappled gradients, as pictured here.
  • Suits fingering weight yarn in any yardage between approx 700 - 900m.
  • Please note this design is charts only.
