Maj is the Swedish word for May. These socks were originally featured in the May issue of the Finnish crafts magazine, Suuri Käsityö. I was asked to design socks that were inspired by spring and the month of May, so I started to think about blossoming apple and cherry trees. The traveling and crossing twisted stitches that turn into small bobbles represent the twisting gnarly branches of old apple trees and apple blossom petals falling in the spring breeze.
The socks are knitted from cuff down towards the toes. The leg is worked in the twisted cable pattern, that can be worked from the chart or according to the written instructions. The heel flaps are reinforced for durability and the French heel ensure a perfect fit.
