Majstad mittens are named after a neighbourhood in Helsinki, filled with little wooden houses and old apple trees. The colorwork pattern will work best with two clear solids with a bit of contrast to show off the trees between the “houses”. These mittens are knitted top down.

Sizing: Average women’s size. The circumreference is 17,5cm (7 inches) and the length from wrist to the tip 20 cm (8 inches).

Materials: 50 g (191 yards) sport weight wool or wool blend yarn in main color (MC), and 50 g in contrasting color (CC).
The sample is knitted with Drops Baby Merino, colorways light grey 22 and yellow 04.

Skill level: Intermediate. The pattern includes knitting in round, KFB, Judy’s magic cast on, EZ’s sewn bind off and stranding. Colorwork instructions are charted, the construction written.
