Meet the Maker’s Pulligan—a pullover cleverly disguised as a cardigan.

At first glance, it looks like a classic button-front cardigan, complete with decorative buttons marching down the front band. But don’t be fooled—this beauty doesn’t open. By eliminating buttonholes and sewing the buttons in place, the Pulligan gives you all the polished style of a cardigan without the pulling, gaping, or fuss that can come with traditional button bands.

The construction is wonderfully straightforward: no complicated provisional cast-on and only a few simple increases to shape the neckline. Worked seamlessly from the top down, the back is knit first to the underarm. Stitches are then picked up for the fronts and worked to the same length before being joined and knit to the full body length. Next, stitches are picked up around the front edges to create the ribbed collar band, and finally, stitches are picked up for the sleeves.

Then comes the magic. Three simple crochet chains are worked down the back, creating striking vertical stripes that add just the right touch of contrast and intrigue. The technique is surprisingly easy, yet the finished effect looks wonderfully sophisticated.

Before blocking, you can sew the buttons in place to complete the Pulligan illusion—or skip this step entirely and wear it as an open-front cardigan. The choice is yours.
Simple to knit, stunning to wear, and delightfully deceptive, the

Maker’s Pulligan is proof that effortless style can still make a grand statement.
