I love dense, complex cable patterns and think hats are the perfect place to experiment with fun motifs. They’re quick and easy and have minimal shaping to worry about, so getting a little detailed can be fun.

The repeating diamond and cable motif on this one adds both depth and geometry to the design, and the gorgeous heather in this yarn really shows the highs and lows of the pattern off beautifully. The ribbing is designed to stagger into the diamonds, and the cables themselves are much easier than you’d expect! Plus, I’m really a pom fan now, although it works both ways.

Instructions are both written and charted.
Notes on altering size are included in the pattern as well.
