My husband recently requested a hat. A plain one please. In black. No fancy bits. Could it look like this… produces a photo of a knitted hat? With a brim too. Me: ok, so let me check I’ve got it all… plain, black, if possible with a brim? Yep, that’d be good…

The knitted part obviously didn’t happen, but he was pretty happy with the hat, which turned out well, using 8ply possum merino mix and a 4mm hook.

Ive also included a tutorial which shows how to line the hat.

Edited to add:
A couple of people have noted this hat turned out small. I’ve re-counted the stitches and there are only 66 on the hat. I can only guess that the yarn I used is a heavier weight than the one the others used (and maybe I crochet more loosely than you do) - my husband doesn’t have a small head (and the hat also fits comfortably on my head) so Id suggest you keep increasing in the same way as the pattern, but maybe try again after 84 or even 90 stitches- remember it will stretch a little so you don’t want it to be too big. I hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Janette

Ps. This is the yarn I used:
