The yarn Freedom of Spirit that inspired this pattern was purchased the day we met our son, aged 3, for the first time since he was a baby. How he came to be away from us is a story for another day, but he has very severe cerebral palsy due to an unexpected birth at 25 weeks and we are not sure if he will ever walk or talk.

He is an amazing little man who is doing everything he can to overcome what seems like insurmountable hurdles. With daily therapy, he is learning to point with one hand and he is learning to read; he can point at words as they are being read to him. We hope and pray for him every day and want him to be able to achieve his goals.

So, to be able to do something for him, and for other children who have similar dreams, to be able to walk and talk one day, I will donate to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation all of the proceeds of this pattern. I will keep tally on the pattern project page and will continue making donations indefinitely. The charity funds research into both prevention and treatment and I hope that soon devices to help children to communicate without typing will be affordable and available to all.

The Cerebral Palsy Foundation also accepts direct deposits at http://www.cpresearch.org.au/h_donate.html

I will tally the total donated at the end of each month and update this page so that you can see how much has been donated to this worthwhile cause. Thank you so much for purchasing this pattern for yourself or for a friend.

As of February 2013 $40 AUD has been donated to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Thank you for your support.

For the sample I used one and a half 50g balls of Freedom of Spirit and half of a 100g ball of Cleckheaton California. I only used the blue shades from the California.
