The Marguerite slip-over is worked from the top down, in the round and in one piece. Two broad bands of diamonds in purl jacquard run around the body. The floats remain visible on the outside, giving the motifs a slightly blurred, almost woven appearance.

The slip-over is knitted in quiet, earthy shades of Rowan Felted Tweed, with small colored threads appearing here and there without a fixed pattern. These little touches of color became part of the story behind the design.

The diamond is an ancient motif that has been associated with femininity, fertility, new life and protection. In Marguerite’s slip-over, it became above all a symbol of protection and new life.

Marguerite Tiste lived in Ellezelles, Belgium. She was only 23 years old when she was executed in Mons on 27 June 1671 after being accused of witchcraft.

This pattern is part of MICCA, a textile art project commemorating the victims of the historical witch persecutions.
