Maria the Axolotl
An adorable pocket-sized axolotl! The body (gills included) is worked in one piece for fewer ends to weave in. Because of its small size, it’s quick to whip up!
(Warning: Difficult to resist making just a few more… You may find yourself quickly overwhelmed with new little friends.)
Supplies
- Yarn in color of choice
- US F/4 crochet hook (3.75mm)
- Stitch marker
- Stuffing
- Two 8mm safety eyes
- Tapestry needle
Difficulty: Easy
Mostly basic stitches (sc, dec, ch, etc.), with a bit of going into the side of stitches for the dorsal fin. Very little sewing. No color changes necessary.
Size
About 4 ½ inches long
(I crochet quite tightly, so you may need a smaller hook if your stitches tend to be looser to make sure the stuffing doesn’t show.)
Variation Ideas
Try making one with gills in a contrasting color, like many real-life axolotls have, or giving it a cute little smile with embroidery floss!
