Mariner Hat
Overview
Inspired by the linear structure of the roof at Liberty of London, this hat is worked top down. A simple cable, highlighted more if using a single color, flows from the crown as increases are worked on either side. I wanted a marled hat so I used one skein each of Woolfolk Sno and Sandnes Garn Sunday to create a blended fabric.
Specifics
Yarn:
Fingering weight yarn held double
I used Woolfolk Sno and Sandnesgarn Sunday held double throughout
or DK or light worsted weight yarn
Needles:
US 6 4 mm, 16 inch circulars and preferred method for knitting on small circumferences
I used 32 inch needles for magic loop
Gauge:
This is a DK or light worsted weight project
10 sts by 12 sts in 2 inches with gauge needles, unblocked, in stockinette
Sizes:
Due to the stretchiness of the ribbing, sizes are very flexible
Sample size is worn for 21.5 inch head circumference*
Three sizes 1(2)3
Size 1 is 104 sts (15.25 inches 38.7 cm unstretched circumference, blocked)
Size 2 (sample size) is 112 sts (16.5 inches 41.9cm unstretched circumference, blocked)
Size 3 is 120 sts (17.75 inches 45cm unstretched circumference, blocked)
