Maritimus is Latin for “of the sea,” which is what this cowl brings to mind. It is knit in the round, using a smooth, drapey cotton.

The pattern begins with a mock cable rib (no cable needle required), and graduates to a simple slip stitch body panel with a contrasting color. It is finished with a narrow 2X2 rib edge. To avoid weaving in multiple ends, the colors are carried up the wrong side as the piece is worked. This cowl is a terrific quick knit for the spring!

In order to ensure a relaxed fit, be sure to choose a yarn with plenty of drape and get gauge after wet blocking. Complete by wet blocking, and generously stretching and pinning out to measurements.
