The construction of this hat is modeled on a crocheted beret pattern found in a 1920s issue of Fancy Needlework Illustrated. Moss stitch and a series of double increases and decreases achieve the look of
crochet. The ribbed band is worn turned under, like the band of a felt beret, to hug the head. The design was inspired by the hat worn by Daisy, the assistant cook on the PBS series Downton Abbey.
