Introducing the Maru Summer – a new summer knitwear design by ATOMAKO, inspired by the aesthetics of traditional Korean architecture.

This lightweight garment takes its cues from the flowing lines of hanok rooftops.
The saddle shoulder mimics the gentle slope of the yongmaru (ridge line of traditional tiled roofs),
while the repeating “maru” pattern, made with a 5-stitch, 2-row repeat, resembles the neatly layered giwa tiles.

Maru Summer is thoughtfully designed to minimize yarn cutting and finishing—especially helpful when working with tricky summer yarns.
You’ll begin by casting on the neckline and knitting the ribbing, then shape the back neck using saddle shoulder increases.
Once the body shaping is complete, sleeve stitches are increased to form the armholes.
The sleeves are then set aside on scrap yarn or stitch cables, and the front panels are joined to finish the body.
Finally, you’ll pick up the sleeve stitches and knit a few short rows to complete the look.

The result is a light, breathable summer knit that you’ll reach for again and again!

From testing:
• Size 2 used approx. 160g of the original yarn
• Size 5 used approx. 180g
It’s incredibly light and airy—perfect for hot weather ☀️

This design was carefully constructed to fit comfortably and beautifully on both petite and plus-size knitters without feeling too tight or too loose.
Offered in five sizes, you can choose your preferred amount of ease—anywhere from 5 to 15 cm.
