The Marvelously Bumpy Potholders were born when my love of cookies and casseroles intruded upon my knitting time. It seems appropriate that a cookie aficionado like myself would make her own potholders. They are simple, but their bumpy texture keeps them interesting.

Make sure to read ALL the instructions before starting! Poorly made potholders can cause serious burns! They make wonderful gifts, but knitting them too loosely could burn the recipient. That’s the last thing you want! (At least, I certainly hope it is.) Be sure to use whatever size needles you need to get the right gauge. MAKE A GAUGE SWATCH OR ELSE.

Do NOT use acrylic yarn! It is made of plastic and will literally melt when exposed to heat. Wool is also a bad idea because it can burn and may lead to injuries. Just be safe and stick with cotton.

Size information: It’s easy to make these larger. Instructions are on the pattern page.

Materials: I use Peaches & Creme for my potholders, but you could probably use any worsted weight kitchen cotton yarn. Soft cotton yarn feels lovely, but it may not be sturdy enough for a potholder. I recommend sticking with the tough stuff.

Miscellaneous: I suggest using the crochet bind off. Even if you decide not to use it, you will still need a crochet hook to make the final loop.
