It is the age of the mask. Never did I think my job in the school system would require me to wear a mask, but here we are. After the first few days of having to double back to my office because I left my mask at my desk I figured I needed a way to keep it on my person and so the mask lanyard was created.

This pattern does call for crocheting a chain.

Yarn:

-Fingering weight yarn 2 g., 8.8 yds., 8 m.
-I used scrap yarn leftover from a sweater, so this is perfect for the scrap yarn or mini skeins you have lying around because let’s be honest we all have them.
-You can use really any weight yarn, just keep in mind the heavier the weight the thicker the lanyard will be.

Suggested Needles and Crochet Hook:

-US 2.5/ 3.mm – double pointed needle or a 16” to 32” cord or whatever you prefer to make an I-cord with.
-Size 5/F crochet hook (the size if the crochet hook isn’t super crucial since you are just making a short chain.

Notions:

-Darning needle, and two lightbulb stitch markers/lanyard clip
-I used the light bulb stitch markers to connect my lanyard to my mask, but you can use a safety pin, jump ring, or a lanyard clip

Schematics:

-The lanyard should measure out to be 19 inches unless you want to make it longer or shorter. One thing to think about is the mask will weigh the lanyard down so it will stretch some with wear.
