This shawl is a special crescent construction using a combination of a half-circle and a winged triangle - no short rows of any kind are needed for this shawl.

In general, increases for the wings should be started approximately after half the target circumference of the circle has been reached, give or take a few rows.

Each row is started with a stitch slipped knit-wise with yarn in back and ended with a ktbl on right side rows; started with a stitch slipped knit-wise with yarn in front and ended with a purl stitch on wrong side rows. This creates a clean selvedge edge. Different edge stitches are possible but will create a knotty or similar edge.
