May Top is an oversized crochet cardigan-style top with short sleeves, a deep V-neckline, front ties, and a soft peplum edge. The fit is loose and relaxed, making it suitable to wear over a simple top or dress. It can be made in your usual size for the intended oversized shape, or one size smaller for a closer fit.

The top is worked in separate pieces and sewn together. The two front pieces and back piece are crocheted flat in alternating rows of double crochet and treble crochet, creating a firm but flexible fabric.

The front pieces are shaped with decreases to form the open neckline, while the shoulders and sides are joined before the sleeves are added.

The sleeves are crocheted directly around the armholes and shaped with different stitch heights to create volume. A row of decreases gathers the sleeve before the final round adds fullness back into the edge.

The front opening is finished with a crocheted edge and six ties, while the lower edge is completed with a flared peplum section.

Design details
May Top is defined by its open front, tie closure, and flared lower edge. The alternating stitch rows give the fabric texture and structure, while the oversized fit keeps the shape casual. The peplum adds movement at the hem, and the short sleeves create a soft, gathered effect without requiring separate sleeve pieces.
