This stitch is intriguing because it has an odd number of rows yet a distinct right and wrong side; it switches between front and back post stitches to achieve this. The contrasting border tassels are a fun finishing detail. The two-stage blocking process may seem a little tedious, but the payoff is worth it.

Gauge: 3 pine tree stitches = 5” (12.5 cm) wide and 6 rows (2 pine tree rep) = 4” (10 cm) tall. First 7 rows of pattern make a triangle about 7” (18 cm) wide from side to side and 4.5” (11.5 cm) tall at tallest point, blocked.

Notions: Tapestry needle, pins for blocking

Note: To make the pine tree stitches, you will be working under the horizontal bars of the long stitches that are created from the yarn overs. This can be a little tricky to figure out at the beginning, but just remember that you are working in the previous stitch itself.
