Mbé, the Leatherback Sea Turtle, pays tribute to the ancient, majestic animal. The fastest moving and deepest diving reptile, she may live as long as 200 hundred years. Now close to extinction, this largest sea turtle outlived the dinosaurs.

She doesn’t have a hard shell but a leathery black, speckled skin and the largest flippers in proportion to her body of any sea turtle.

The body is worked in joined rounds. The double crochet that predominates is deliberately not as close as single crochet--- so that white stuffing might be glimpsed behind the black, to mimic the leatherback turtle’s own white speckled, black body.
