The MBM Hat Cowl is a versatile, one-skein project that can be worn as either a cozy cowl or a cinched hat. Originally published in 2017, this refreshed Firefly Edition features an updated sample knit in King Cole Firefly Aran in the color Dragonfly.

The pattern includes decorative eyelets and an optional i-cord finish, making it a fun project for adventurous beginners and experienced knitters alike. The Firefly Edition is worked using a single US Size 8 (5 mm) needle, making it an approachable and travel-friendly knit.

Finished Size:
Approximately 9” wide by 9–10” high when laid flat. One size fits most adults.

Materials:
• 1 skein King Cole Firefly Aran (100g / 219 yards)
• US Size 8 (5 mm) 16” circular needle or US Size 8 double pointed needles (8” DPNs preferred)
• 2 single-hole cord stops
• Optional: Supplies for making two 20” i-cords

Pattern Features:
• One-skein project
• Wear as a hat or a cowl
• Decorative eyelet details
• Optional i-cord closure
• Knit in the round
• Quick, giftable project

This updated edition also includes links to helpful tutorials for the cast-on technique and optional i-cord finish.

I hope you enjoy knitting this pattern as much as I enjoyed revisiting and refreshing it for a new generation of makers.

Happy knitting!
