Meadow Swirl is a center-out lace shawl knitted in the round. Knitting the growing design has a meditative quality.

Size: Size is dependent on your choice of yarn, needles and the point you choose to end with. The sample is 48″ (122 cm) in diameter.

Yarn: Fiber and weight are your choice. The amount of yarn you use is dependent on how large you want your shawl. Directions are given to compute yarn needed for each ending. Choose about twice the amount of yarn you would use to make a half-circle or triangle shawl.
The sample used 843 yds (771 m) of Red Heart Rainbow.

Gauge: Gauge is your choice. The sample was knit with a gauge of 18 stitches and 20 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette in the round. Note that since the stitches slant in Scroll Stitch, your stockinette gauge will not match your round and stitch gauge in your shawl.
Scroll lace gauge can be checked at Round 22 of the shawl. The sample measured 8” (21 cm) in diameter at the end of Round 22.

Needles: Use the needles that get the gauge you want in the yarn you want. For a light lace, it is recommended that you start with a needle one or two sizes larger than the size recommended on the yarn’s ball band.

You will need 1 or more circular needles, 22” to 48″ (61 to 122 cm) long and one needle 2 sizes larger to bind off with.
You will need to start with DPNs or magic loop.
Sample used a US 7 (4.50 mm) needle for the body of the work and a US 9 (5.50 mm) to cast off.

Notions: You will also need a tape measure, scissors, row counter and a darning needle. 48 markers can be helpful in separating pattern repeats.
