“Plain” enough for the conservative sweater wearer yet interesting enough for the knitter, this top-down saddle-shoulder pullover features wide welted ribs across the upper torso and a simple wide ribbed pattern along the lower body. The welted pattern also travels across the shoulder “saddles” and continues down the length of the sleeves.

The sweater begins with the welted saddles at the shoulders, then the back and front are picked up from the saddles and worked in rows to the base of the armholes where the body is joined in rounds to the hem. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes, the caps shaped with short-rows, then worked in rounds to the cuffs.

The tweed yarn shown here has a rugged appearance but it surprisingly soft against the skin.
