Meiko is the first free design as part of the #babyanimalCAL starting 2 August 2021 on my Instagram page (instagram.com/carascreationsaus).

Meiko is a cute, seated little monkey. Always happy but swinging in the trees is his favourite pastime! When he’s not swinging or snacking on bananas, he loves to listen to happy music.

Difficulty: Intermediate, US terminology

You will need:

  • 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
  • 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g yarn in each colour: BROWN, CREAM and PINK
  • BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best, I prefer cotton or cotton blend.
  • When changing colour, yarn over the new colour and pull through on the stitch prior.
  • For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o BROWN = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in col. 88 o CREAM = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 38 o PINK = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 19
  • Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
  • Your tension, the yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Meiko the Monkey is approximately 9cm tall (3½ inches).
  • I have used embroidered the eyes for this pattern but you may choose to use safety eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
