Zady is the second free design as part of the #babyanimalCAL which we start on 9 August 2021 on my Instagram page (instagram.com/carascreationsaus).

Zady is a dainty little Zebra who loves to sit and drink tea! Storytime is her favourite activity – listening to all the wonderful stories brings her so much joy!

Difficulty: Intermediate, US terminology

You will need:

  • 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
  • 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g yarn in each colour: CHARCOAL, WHITE and PINK
  • BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best, I prefer cotton or cotton blend.
  • For a neat colour change, start the next round with the old colour and use the new colour to yarn over and pull through (close) the first sc (see photo in pattern).
  • I’ve used the following yarns: o CHARCOAL = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in col. 010 o WHITE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 01 o PINK = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 19
  • Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
  • Your tension, the yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Zady the Zebra is approximately 10cm tall (4 inches).
  • I have embroidered the eyes for this pattern but you may choose to use safety eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
