I LOVE big boxy sweaters, so I have been playing with “how to make a square look like a rectangle” to cheat my eyes.

Mellemvaerk is an easy worked oversized fluffy sweater, worked top-down with sloped, dropped shoulders and ladder stitches to create lines in the sweater. The columns of ladder stitches can be filled with “woven in threads” of other yarns.

Sizes
This sweater has only three sizes: 1, 2 and 3.
120 (135, 149) cm/47.25 (53, 58.5)”.
The model is wearing a size 2 with approx 40cm/15.75” positive ease.

Measurements of the finished sweater
Neckline circumference at the finishing rib: 48 (50.5, 56) cm/18.75 (20, 22)”.
Shoulder width: 21.5 (24, 25) cm/8.5 (9.5, 9.75)”.
Armhole depth: 21 (22, 23) cm/8.25 (8.5, 9)”.
Bust/body circumference: 120 (135, 149) cm/47.25 (53, 58.5)”.
Upper arm circumference: 41.5 (46, 50) cm/16.25 (18, 19.5)”.
Cuff circumference: 29 (32, 32) cm/11.5 (12.5, 12.5)”.
Sleeve length: approx 32-42cm/12.5-16.5”.
Body length# measured from underarm: approx 35-37cm/13.75-14.5”.

Be aware to try the sweater’s fit and length when working so length can be adjusted to personal preference! When you work a boxy sweater the width of the shoulder has a big impact on the length of sleeve and body.

Yarn
Note! The yardage is for working a version according to measurements.
700 (780, 860) m/760 (860, 940) yd of Bella by Permin, bulky, 75% goat-mohair, 20% wool, 5% nylon, 150m/164yd per 50g/1.76oz.
+ scrap yarn for weaving the columns. You can use any yarn weight.

Yarn alternative: Big Suri by KnitbyMoltrup.dk, bulky, 74% Suri Alpaca, 22% merino, 4% polyamid, 130m/ yd per 50g/1.76oz.
Be aware to choose a quite drapey yarn and do not work with several threads held together, if you want to weave the columns.
