For a knitter, yarn can hold many memories – the friend who gifted it to you, that special trip you took, the item you knit with it in the past. They’re so precious we hold on to the last yards of them even after the majority has been knitted. The Memory Keeper’s Hat is a project where you can use these treasures and give them a purpose.

The hat is knit with a neutral color as a second yarn throughout to create a cohesive, calming look, so you don’t have to worry about the skeins matching. This hat will look like you, like the projects you’ve knit in the past. And with three sizes available, you can knit one for every member of your family.

Materials
• Yarn: 1 skein of Rintalan Tila Vieno (100% Finn sheep; 350 m / 383 yds per 100 g) for your main color (carried throughout the hat) or approx. 120 158, 175 m / 131 173, 192 yds of fingering weight yarn in a neutral color
AND
an equal amount of fingering weight scraps or miniskeins (approx. 120 158, 175 m / 131 173, 192 yds) in various colors
• Needles: 4.5 mm / US 7 40 cm / 16” circular needle and a set of dpns (for crown decreases) or size
needed to obtain gauge
• 4 stitch markers

The samples for sizes M (green) & L (pink) were knit using Rintalan Tila Vieno in undyed white and an equal amount of various fingering weight scraps and miniskeins. The purple and turquoise hat is size S and knit using Araucania Ranco Solid in a purple color as the main color.

Gauge
19 sts x 26 rows = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
