Gather, shuck, weave, & mend. Absorb, listen. These were the very words she loved as her mind wandered, trailing somewhere off after the feet that traipsed gently through the fields. She didn’t always do them in the same order, and there was an easy freedom in her ways. Handwoven & handworn, an old brown basket settled comfortably into the space of one hip as she moved. Bare feet connecting with warm earth. Longrasses whispered like feathers as she drifted through them towards the garden. Golden hour illuminated the grasses as they flowered. Each one she affectionately called by name- the woodrushes, fescues, foxtails and bluegrasses. Each with a purpose and a beauty. Just like her and these tasks. Once the chamomile heads were plucked for tea & the peapods collected, she settled into the shade of the rippling field to shuck. The wind rushed in waves over the greenery, following no pattern or rhythm save its own. Almost hurridly, then a pause, a change in direction, another change. Light danced and rippled beneath afternoon shade. This was the most beautiful thing to steep in: the lack of prediction or logic each current held. Gather, shuck, weave, & mend.
