Mermaid Cup Cozy Free Patterns – Knit & Crochet Versions

One thing I have an overabundance of is tiny little scraps of yarn. They are too small to make much of anything, but just a little too large for me to dispose of without feeling bad. So I started thinking of ways to use up scraps (stash-busting, as they say). I wanted to make something useful and fun and fandom-related. The result were these cup cozies, inspired by The Little Mermaid.

Knit and Crochet Cup Cozies – Going Green while Drinking Caffeine

Maybe not everyone’s coffee shop order involves espresso or caffeinated coffee, but mine sure does! These cozies work for decaf or tea or hot cocoa, as well. These are a great little thing to stash in your purse or bag, and you can use them rather than the cardboard coffee sleeves you get at the coffee shop. So, not only do they cut down on cardboard, but they are adorable with a wink to your Disney fandom.

The finished cozies fit the standard to-go cups (they have a little bit of give to them, so they may look small but will stretch to hug the cup snugly).

Easy to Customize

Of course, you can use any colors you’d like in any combination. Get rid of whatever small bits of yarn are in your stash, or make another fandom-inspired color scheme. I thought about doing these for all the house colors in Harry Potter (fun gift set idea) or even superhero colors. Really, you can do whatever you want with them. Lots of possibilities.

So, here’s what I did to make these little babies, starting with the crochet version and followed by the knit.
