This pattern takes the basic slouchy hat up a notch with a different (but still easy!) ribbing and by using the Mermaid Scales stitch to give texture to the hat. The Mermaid Scales stitch is easy to learn (the pattern includes instructions and pictures) and becomes quite addictive to work. The special ribbing gives the hat the perfect fit.

This stitch pattern is a great showcase for beautiful yarn. It really brings out all of the tones and colors.

This hat takes about 175 - 225 yards sport yarn (gauge 24 sts/ 4”=10cm) and is worked in the round, but the pattern includes instructions on how to work the first few rows flat if you find it challenging to join in the round without twisting.
