The Merritt shawl is a bulky knit and boldly patterned throughout.
I happen to love bulky shawls as they feel like they are giving me a hug and frankly, who couldn’t use one of those.
This rectangular shawl is knitted sideways, starting out with a beautifully textured Hourglass motive, then moves into some stylish Pillars and finally ends with a Seeded Flag pattern.
It even has an added closure option, a couple of braids topped off with very cool oversized disk beads.

Measurements: 55” in length, 17” in height unblocked
This pattern can easily be knitted with a lighter weight yarn and smaller needle size. Simply add more length to your individual sections. Of course, more yarn will be needed.

Yarn:
Bulky, a 100% cotton yarn in a bulky weight, 77 yards per skein.
C1 Dark Grey, 3 skeins or 220 yards.
C2 Light Grey, 2 skeins or 140 yards.
If you knit yours in a single color you will need 360 yards.

Gauge: 8 sts and 13 rows in 4” of Stockinette stitch
