I have been playing with spelling out names for relatives for absolutely years. Most of my Family has their own personalised banners or Garlands for their birthday, so, I thought I would write
some patterns down for common phrases. If you use 4ply, they are great for hanging, if you use DK the letters are 14cm approx. If you use superchunky, they are 30cm approx. I made Merry
Christmas from 4 strands of Hobbii Christmas universe, which is 4ply & they stand around 16cm – the same as Aran. I used 4 balls & had approx 100g left over – so, 300g. Sorry I can’t be more
specific. I bought the yarn because it is stunning with no idea what to do with it You will need 4mm double pointed needles – they are all knit flat & sewn together. And toy stuffing. There is absolutely no reason why you can’t just hang the flat letters, which will take
half of the yarn. They are all knit in seed stitch & every row starts knit 1, p1, across the row, so, easy to remember. You can also use garter stitch, or stocking stitch, but I don’t think it looks as nice.
There is a lot of short rows shaping for the corners
