Whether your hair is super long (like mine) or just fits into a small ponytail, these “messy bun” or ponytail beanies have become a fun, popular fashion accessory!

What’s so great about this pattern is that it’s easy, affordable, and works up QUICKLY. I love crochet projects that can be completed in about 45 minutes to an hour (depending on skill level — it may take more than that).

Skill level: Beginner

Size: Adult OS fits all

Materials
Size M (9mm) crochet hook
One skein Lion Brand Hometown USA in color of choice
Thick, regular sized hair tie (important — make sure there are no metal pieces on the hair tie!)

TIP: With this type of yarn, I recommend a plastic crochet hook. Metal hooks can feel a bit constraining at this size, and the yarn is so thick that it tends to be hard to hook if you use a bamboo hook.

TIP: The success of the stitching depends on using the correct hair tie. Using a hair tie that is too small or too big may change the way the crown of the hat measures. I suggest Goody Ouchless Black Hair Elastics No Metal Gentle Hair Ties in whatever color you’d like. I usually use black; the hair tie doesn’t show through the yarn, anyway
