When we were kids, my sister, brother and I got our hands on a piece of mica—a rocky mineral—and were fascinated with splitting it along its iridescent planes.

This sculptural and airy cowl has an interesting construction. It uses a traditional Old Shale knitting pattern amidst a field of Stockinette, to create waves and distortions in the fabric. One strip of the shale pattern is worked perpendicularly to the body, creating layers and lines that remind me of that bit of shimmering mica.
