Midnight Mosaic Shawl
This lightweight, generously sized shawl (50 x 180 cm) is worked in sport-weight 100% merino wool, making it soft, warm, and perfect for year-round wear. Its construction is delightfully unusual: the entire piece is knitted in the round, where the number of stitches determines the length, and the number of rows builds the width.
The striking two-colour pattern is created using mosaic knitting which is a clever and accessible colourwork technique that uses only one colour at a time. No stranded floats, no fuss, just clean geometric lines and an engaging rhythm.
To finish, a section of stitches is intentionally dropped, transforming into a beautiful, fluid fringe that adds movement and a touch of playful drama to the piece.
Whether you’re new to colourwork or looking for a fresh construction method, this shawl offers simplicity, texture, and a stunning graphic effect in one satisfying knit.
