Until the year of 1890 milestones were commonly used in Sweden to mark out distances along the roads. In the countryside you can still find them, even if you do not need them in the same way anymore…. In transmitted sense you might think of a milestone as a goal, a place to give yourself some reward for something you have achieved, may it be simple, difficult, important or impressive. Like knitting a cabled dress or sweater for instance….

My Milestone pattern can be worked as a dress or as a sweater, it is up to you to choose! I started out mine like a sweater, but I fell in love with the cable pattern and couldn’t stop myself.
The pattern has been tested. Take a look at my testers achievements (Milestones) to see how they worked with modifications according to their taste.
Thank you to my very talented testkntters:HeiniP / sangee1234 / whiskeyknits / Readerfreek and Malinda.

Construction The body and sleeves are worked in-the-round from RS and bottom-up to underarms where pieces are joined and the upper body is worked in one piece. The design is completely seamless. Stitches are picked up for the neck-edging.

Design
The pattern could be worked as a dress or a sweater and, with or without waist-shaping. One of my testers worked a short-sleeved dress; very pretty!
A repetetive and intuitive cable-pattern for front as well as sleeves makes the dress/sweater look elaborate:)) Scoop neck, set-in-sleeves and ribbed hems.

Finished bust measurements are
32.5/35/38/39.5/41.5/43.5/45.5/47.5/49.5”

Material You will need a DK weight wool to work the pattern. I used “Felted Tweed DK” from Rowan which comes in balls of 50gr/1.75oz. You will need 7/8/8/9/9/10/10/10/11 balls of this wool to work the dress. Depending on which wool you choose you might need more/less wool.
Gauge 24 sts and 30-32 rows in stockinette = 10x10cm/4x4”

The pattern is tested. It comes with all measurements in cm’s as well as inches, lots of stitch-counts, charts and written instructions for the patterning.

You need average skills to work the dress/sweater. Abbreviations used are k, p, ssk, k2tog, yo, m1l, m1r, sl2k1psso.
