The Milky Way is the name of our galaxy, and the latest images show it being softly squared, more than rather rounded. Those images indeed inspired me to design this traditional wrap in the crocheted version. The delicate chevrons and colors flowing in the same direction add to this comparison. Coming back to Earth: the traditional, knitted Scottish hap shawl, and my crocheted version, both have the plain center square framed with striped ripple pattern and lacy border.

Full square size: 50” x 50”, which makes it comfortable and warm shawl when doubled into a triangle.

The Milky Way hap shawl starts from the central square made plain, back and forward, with the “rice” stitch. Then, the stripes of chevron stitch are worked around the four sides of the square; the shawl finishes with the lace border made separately and sewn after.

The crochet work is very pleasant and rather quick, I would not recommend it to the very beginner though; unless you are brave and like challenges
