Gauge is not important in this pattern.
Here’s a tip working with Opera yarn - work loosely! The yarn will knit up much better. There are sequins in this yarn and it is fairly loosely twisted. To avoid catching the sequins and getting frustrated, work with a loose gauge.

Any 2 complementary yarns would work with this pattern. It is written for worsted weight, but could easily be changed to a lighter or heavier yarn by changing the number of cast on stitches. Also if you would like the cowl to be wider than the approximate 7”, simply add an equal amount of rows to the top and bottom.
