Tested pattern
I really like the idea of 2 generations wearing the same design:) Be it a young mother and child, a grandmother and grandchild, aunt and niece… This time I took a look at my adult patterns to see which one I wanted to transfer into a pattern for children. As it is autumn and I really enjoy the cable/eyelet pattern my choice went to “Milestone” ( a tested sweater/dress pattern).
I had some lovely cashmere yarn in my stash, and off I went knitting. I anticipated that the amount of yarn wasn’t nearly what I needed to work long sleeves. My version is with short sleeves, it is tested with long or short sleeves, it is entirely up to you to choose what you like best!

Construction The sweater is completely SEAMLESS, it is worked bottom up and in the round. Body and sleeves are worked to underarms, pieces are joined and the upper body is worked with raglan-decreases. For the smaller sizes you split work in the left side of the front and work is continued back and forth to create the opening. This is necessary for the smaller sizes, for the larger sizes it is optional. Both methods are explained. Neckline is worked in rib-pattern from picked-up and live sts. The edge of the front opening is worked in simple crochet (chains and single crochet)

Sizes
Please note that sizing is approximative. Children vary much in sizes. For best result compare the chest measurement with a favorite garment in order to choose the right size:
6-12 mo: finished chest 52cm/20.5” 1-2y finished chest 56cm/22”” 2-3y finished chest 61cm/24” 4-5y finished chest 65cm/25.5” 6-7y finished ches 70cm/27.5”

Materials
Yarn: I used Lotus Cashmere DK. You might substitute for another yarn as long as you stay true to gauge. I recommend that you use a yarn with great stitch definition.
You will need 400/600/600/800/1000 yards to work the sweater Needles: A circular needle, 60 -80cm/24-32”, needle size 2.5mm/US1.5 to work the lower and upper body Dpns, 2.5mm/US1.5 to work the sleeves. Use the needle size needed to obtain gauge! A circular needle one size smaller for the neckline.
Notions: 5 buttons, 1cm/0.3” across. Stitch-markers, 2 separate holders. A crochet hook, size 2.00mm - 2.25mm.
USE NEEDLE SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE!

Gauge 28 sts and 34 rows in stockinette = 10x10cm/4x4”
