Designed for Road Trip Sock Yarn for the 2025 Estes Park Wool Market.

Elizabeth Wilson (fondly referred to as Miss Elizabeth by hotel employees) was a housekeeper at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado from its inception. She was a devoted employee to the Stanley Family, but, unfortunately, also the victim of a terrible accident that happened in room 217 in the main hotel building on June 25, 1911. Miraculously, she survived this accident after being treated at a hospital in the nearby town of Longmont. She resumed her duties at the Stanley, where she continued to work until her passing in the 1950’s. While she did not die in the hotel, it is believed that her spirit returned to the hotel and continues to work in room 217- which is reported to be the most haunted room of all the buildings on the Stanley campus.

I designed this shawl as a tribute to the hotel’s most loyal employee. Being a housekeeper, I would imagine that the shawls she wore would be practical and warm, but still attractive. I designed the body of this shawl in simple double crochets, with a lacy border for some feminine flair.

This shawl uses 2 skeins of Herd of Cats Road Trip Sock 85/15 (fingering weight).

I used a size G hook, but the size of hook you use will depend on the look you want for your shawl- I prefer tighter stitches and a tighter gauge. This is how the gauge of 5 stitches/ 3 rows per inch is achieved.

We look forward to seeing you in Estes Park!
