This hat design is closely inspired by a style of toque popular in the late 1910’s and early 1920’s. I’ve named my version after the title character of the 1920 film “The Flapper”. The style has been updated with modern knitting techniques, which allows it to be knit in the round (on 16” circular needles) with minimal seaming. The textured brim adds interest, while the top portion is draped and sewn for a fun twist on a traditional toque.

This lovely, vintage hat is easy to make and is suitable for beginners. It can be quickly worked up, using a single skein of your favourite fingering-weight yarn.

Skills required: Twisted German Cast-On, Kitchener Stitch, Knit and Purl Stitches.

Please note, specific instructions on creating the pom-poms are not included in this pattern (although size is specified). Feel free to use whatever your preferred method for making pom-poms is.
