Miss January will be back soon after a revamp of my Ravelry store - stay tuned!

Miss January is an easy round yoked pullover with short or long sleeves and a pretty slip stitch color pattern around the yoke, knit in the round from the bottom up with no seaming. Sized to fit a 28 - 56”+ bust, and with optional short row bust darts, it will flatter virtually any figure.

Miss January is highly customizable to fit and flatter as many knitters as possible. In addition to sleeve length and bust dart options, the pattern includes a Plain Jane easy version for the beginner or knitter in a hurry, and a Fancypants version with a detailed tutorial on how to graft hem, cuffs and collars for a perfect custom finish. It also includes a detailed schematic and lots of pictures, including detail shots.

Shown in a gorgeous tweedy Shetland wool yarn with just a touch of silk, it can be knitted in any sport weight or light DK yarn. (Swift River Farm Prescott, the absolutely lovely yarn used for the sample, can be found here.) Requires 592 (679, 780, 895, 1007, 1133, 1309, 1425) yards of the main color and 338 (360, 393, 435, 479, 515, 560, 597) yards of a contrast color.

Pattern is intended to be worn with 0 - 3 inches positive ease. Size shown is short-sleeved version, 40 inch (107 cm) bust, with 0 inches ease at bust and no short rows worked.

Bust/hip measurement for garment is 30 (32, 36.25, 40, 44.25, 48, 52.25, 56) inches and depth of yoke for is 7.25 (7.75, 8, 8.5, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 10.5) inches. If short rows are worked, size should be chosen based on cross-back measurement (the measurement from shoulder to shoulder) of 13.5 (14.5, 16, 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 18.5) inches. (For more information on how to take cross-back measurement, see the Craft Yarn Council’s Standard Body Measurements page.

Needles and notions required include:

  • 32 inch (81 cm) circular needles, US size 4 (3.5 mm) and 5 (3.75mm) (or size needed to obtain gauge) - an optional extra size 5 needle or two may prove handy for holding stitches while knitting sleeves, instead of stitch holders or waste yarn (NOTE: it is important to use the needle size that allows you to get gauge, especially if you are not using the same yarn!)

  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, grafting, and threading waste yarn through stitches

  • Six large stitch holders or lengths of waste yarn for holding stitches and for optional provisional cast-on

  • 8 locking stitch markers (more for use when grafting for Fancypants version only)
