This mitten pattern combines both crochet and knitting. It includes a knit ribbed cuff and a slip stitch crocheted hand and thumb.

Yarn requirements:
sturdy, medium weight acrylic yarn (Albert Miller’s choice- said wool neither held up as well nor was as warm) or
medium weight wool yarn (Robin Hansen’s preference- used Bartlettyarns Homespun - tending to the heavy side of medium weight). You take your choice.

For a pair you will need for main color (by size): oz(g):
3(85.5) 4(114), 4(114), 5(142.5), 5(142.5)
Contrasting color (for cuffs): oz(g):
1/2(14.25), 3/4(21.5), 3.4(21.5) 1(28.5, 1(28.5)

Equipment:

• The dowel hook (book includes instructions for making your own from a dowel or other piece of thin wood if you are not able to source one)
• 1 set size 4 (3.5 mm, Can size 9) double-pointed knitting needles, or size you need to work k1,p1 ribbing at correct tension
• blunt-tipped yarn needle
• 1 medium size safety pin and 1 smaller (but not tiny) safety pin

Tension:
6.5 sts= 1” or 2.5 cm in k1,p1 ribbing
6 sts=1” or 2.5 cm in slip-st crochet worked through the front of the stitch only

Measurement chart for sizing includes: Hand length, Hand circumference (including tip of thumb), Mitten hand length, Length of mitten thumb, Mitten width.
