Hello! Welcome to Aberdeen’s Wool Company MKAL. (Mystery Knit Along). This group is intended to be a safe, happy place for us all to hang out together during the “social distancing”. We came up with a project that is easy to do (our brains are all pretty full, and overwhelmed at the moment so why make this stressful).

This project is suitable for beginners to advanced knitters alike, we just don’t want anyone to feel alone or isolated, and knitting is a community, and this allows us to do it safely

How the MKAL will work:

1) You will need yarn about 3000 yards of worsted weight, in multiple colours (15-20). The sample I am doing has 20, but it’s entirely up to you! It’s a great stash buster, use up some of those odds and ends you have at home, there is also a list of the exact colours and yarn I used. You will also need a 5.0mm 24 inch circular needle, but the project can also be done on straight needles is that is your preference.

We created a colour pack, to make it easy!

2) Everyday we will post something! Either the next clue, a happy photo, a discussion topic, or something to take our minds off of the mayhem! Two sections of the patterns will be posted weekly, one on Monday, and one on Friday. There is no time deadline for this, join in at anytime, don’t feel you need to complete the sections as they are posted, this is a “stress free” zone

3) We ask that this space stays positive, so please be kind, we are all living in a world that seems really scary, and we are here to lift each other up. It’s a way for us to check in with each other, and feel like we are still in our beloved knitting community. This doesn’t mean we can’t speak freely, we just ask, that we all be respectful, we are all coping with the pandemic in different ways. We will moderate the group often, and proactively.

4) Have fun!!!

5) If you have questions, or concerns, please feel free to message me, or email heather@aberdeenswool.ca

So let’s have some fun, send virtual hugs, say hi to old and new friends, and embrace the calming click of the needles. So pour a cup of your favourite beverage (I’m all about the coffee) and sit back…and enjoy some community despite being in our homes.

Be well everyone
Much Love
Heather
