Notes:
The yarn used is from Darn Good Yarn’s second yarn of the month box. Each box comes with a knit and crochet pattern for the included yarn, this one contained a 50g ball of their Darn Good Fancy Twist Silk yarn in Pink Flamingo. I am always excited to receive my boxes, but the tiny neon bag patterns were not quite my style. At only 50 yds, I thought I would need a second yarn to bulk up my yardage and make something a little more exciting. Just like the first box, the bright, variegated yarn colors were a little much for me on their own. Having recently learned brioche to use the yarn in my first box for my Birdie pattern, I thought the brioche honeycomb stitch would do the trick. I found some leftover cotton yarn from a washcloth I crocheted, and thought the dark navy would pair well enough with the black in the DGY. Once finished, the dullness of the navy, paired with the bright neons in the silk really made me think of cyberpunk style and Johnny Mnemonic. With very little DGY to work with, the Mnemonic Cowl was born.

I liked the results so much that I went on to make two shawl patterns inspired by this cowl. One is the Mnemonic Shawl, with a black wool to better match the DGY and really play off that Cyberpunk style. The other is The Last of Us, which was the result of my impatience and a mistaken color purchase (I wanted to duplicate the Peaches and Cream yarn with something organic, but the navy I found online was way too light in person). I decided to turn blue lemons into lemonade and created this wonderful piece that made me think of the fleeting beauty of Fall.
