There are many variations on how to make a mock-cable stitch and this is just one way to do it. A mock-cable stitch creates a simple twist in the pattern without the use of a cable needle.

This particular hat was made carrying two strands of fingering weight yarn at a time to create a thicker fabric and used most of two balls of yarn. Therefore it can also be made with one strand of DK or sport weight yarn.

For a chunkier look, worsted or Aran weight yarn could be used as well. Just be sure to make a gauge swatch to determine how many stitches to cast on to get the size you want.

For reference:
An adult medium/large hat fits a head that is between 22-23 inches/57-59 centimeters in circumference.

An infant to child’s head ranges in size from 18.5 inches/47 centimeters to 22 inches/57 centimeters in circumference.
