Modern Vine Collar/Cowl
MODERN CABLES
A new take on the traditional collar cowl, this cozy pullover neckwarmer tapers in to keep you warm on colder days, and can be worn under a coat, too. The pattern is knit in the round, and uses knit and purl stitches and two basic cable techniques to create a sleek, elegant twist on the traditional cabled vine. Inspired by dozens of hours spent on soccer sidelines, this collar is meant for anyone who wants to keep their neck and shoulders warm during the cooler months and still be able to zip up their parkas and rain jackets.
It’s a quick weekend project and a great gift!
YARN
While the original was designed with Cascade 128 Superwash, the pattern requires about 150-200 yards of any bulky yarn, depending on gauge, knit on size 10.5 needles (or size needed for gauge). Ombre and multicolored yarns look just as pretty as solids.
MATERIALS
Yarn (above), cable needle, size 10 circular needles (16” or 24” long), size 10 DPNs, and a removable marker.
FIT
This collar works perfectly under a coat, parka, or rainjacket - its low profile and snug, soft fit keeps your neck warm during the cold months. It’s tailored to fit snugly so no cold air gets in. If you spend a lot of time outside and don’t always want to wear a bulky scarf or shawl, this is perfect - it fits under your jacket and stretches over almost any head for a perfect fit!
DIFFICULTY
Stitches required are knit, purl, p2tog, sytk (see https://bit.ly/2nIuw7x for details), and cable stitches. Both written instructions and charts are included.
