The bolero is first knit as a long rectangle incorporating short rows and knitting on the diagonal. After blocking, the rectangle is sewn together to form a bolero. Any yarn can be used to make this bolero — the main criterion is that the knit piece drapes well.

Das Modell wird zunächst als langer Schal gestrickt. Nach dem Spannen wird er so zusammengenäht, dass ein Bolero entsteht. Der Schal enthält verkürzte Reihen und diagonal gestrickte Bereiche. Der Schalbolero kann im Prinzip mit jedem Garn und jedem Muster gestrickt werden. Wichtig ist, dass das Gestrick schön fällt.
