The gauge here is nominal because the fur fabric is very stretchy. The brim is knitted with a light worsted weight smooth yarn for stability. Bulky machines are easiest but a standard gauge version using every other needle also works quite well. This hat is part of an entire book on silly hats called Hats With Character Volume 2. Here is the table of contents for the entire book.
