Construction notes: The Montalcini Sweater is a fluffy half-brioche garment worked seamlessly top down with two strands of yarn held together. It has a simple drop-down shoulder shape with short rows creating a higher back and a puffy, folded ribbed neck. All over the sweater body, a half-brioche pattern repeat is worked, which creates an interesting horizontal zig-zag effect. Brioche ribbing runs from the underarms to the split seams, which allow the garment subtle movement. The sleeves are straight and gathered at the wrists. The brioche zig-zag pattern repeats itself on the top of the sleeve and all ribbed sweater edges are finished off with an Invisible ribbed Bind-off. The soft mohair and camel sweater has an allover lace pattern that adds texture and depth to the airy and light feel of the garment. Body and sleeve length are easily adjustable.

Notions: stitch markers in different colors, tapestry needle, crochet hook (optional)

Stitch information: The Montalcini pattern repeat is both written and charted

Inspiration: This pattern was inspired by Rita Levi Montalcini, a female Italian scientist. She said: “Above all, don’t fear difficult moments. The best comes from them.”
